12/21/2007: Wish You Had More Time to Read? Barbara Bloomfield and NE Lending Library Catalog

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Read By MP3! If you’re anything like me, you’ve got a ton of great material that you’d love to read, but you just don’t have the time! Something you might want to try over your break is converting some of your reading material to an mp3 audio file and listening to it on your mp3 player, on your computer while you work on other things or in your car.

There are several ways to do this that are FREE & very EASY to do. I think my newest favorite way to do this is:

Spoken Text Screen Shot

  1. Go to www.spokentext.net and set yourself up with a FREE account. It just takes a couple minutes. This is a GREAT online resource for making text to audio conversions and I use it a lot!
  2. You can then click on the Document Tab if you want to upload an entire text document from your computer OR
  3. Click the tab that says Enter Text. You can type your own text in here OR copy/paste text from some place else.
  4. Choose your Voice, Speed, Volume at the top and then select Record at the bottom! (Don’t forget to name your recording)
  5. Your text is being turned into an mp3 audio file at this point.

  6. Once the conversion finishes, it will show up if you click View Recordings along the left.
  7. You can then play your recording right there in that browser window OR
  8. Click in the Downloads column, to download an iPod audio file, an mp3 or multiple mp3s. Then you just put that downloaded mp3 onto your mp3 player or save it and play it in iTunes or Windows Media player! Give it a shot over break!
  9. SpokenText.net will do a lot more as well, but this is the basic conversion process. Enjoy!

A printed version along with the CD version will be sent to all NE directors and NE UDL Pilot Teams. Additional CD versions of the catalog will be available upon request. Contact our office if you’d like to receive one.
