The 2013-14 school year is just around the corner!
Sometimes it seems that stores bring out the “Back to School” signs way too soon. Now with many of our schools on a balanced calendar the stores may be having a hard time keeping up with us! The PATINS Project Coordinators have been out in many schools this month doing some great trainings. Are we scheduled to come to your school? If not, please schedule us. iPads, UDL, DRMs, Read:OutLoud and much more. We have been designing trainings that can be called nothing less than personal. As always, this is at no cost to the school corporation.
Do you have a student using the iPad as their “voice”?
Students using apps like ProLoQuo2Go and My First AAC need to be heard. The iPad is designed as a personal device with a volume range appropriate for up-close listening. This may not be enough in a classroom setting. There are some great little bluetooth speakers that allow movement while giving amazing volume and clarity. Once Bluetooth is enabled (2nd choice in Settings) the iPad searches for devices to pair with. The iPad will remember this device and pair automatically the next time it is turned on. The speaker that I have used is the HMDX Jam. It can be found at stores like Walmart, Best Buy and Bed, Bath and Beyond in the $30-60.00 price range. It comes in lots of colors and will stay connected up to 30′ away! This allows a student to move around the classroom with just the iPad. The volume on this 2.8″ x 2.8″ x 2.5″ is amazing. It would also be a great way to increase the volume on an app so that an entire classroom could hear the sound!
My First AAC, by Injini is a really easy to use, toddler and preschool friendly AAC app. It has a customizable screen layout that goes from 2 to 8 choices per category and up to 250 icons organized by category.
